Veritas Alumni Faculty Program

An Overview of the Veritas Alumni Faculty Program

One of the most distinctive advantages of Veritas is that our faculty is comprised entirely of program alumni. Our specialized curriculum integrates advanced, college-level disciplines that demand a depth of understanding rarely developed through conventional teacher preparation. By recruiting exclusively from our alumni, we ensure that every instructor has experienced the intellectual rigor, instructional methods, and academic expectations of the Veritas model firsthand. They understand not only what students are expected to learn, but how they are taught to think, where they are likely to struggle, and what it takes to succeed. This creates a unique instructional advantage: our students are taught and mentored by educators who have successfully completed the very academic journey they are guiding others through.

Step 1

Teaching Assistants

Selection as a teaching assistant is one of the highest honors a graduate of the Veritas Debate Institute can receive. Reserved for exceptional scholars who distinguish themselves through outstanding performance at both Veritas and the Harvard Debate Council, this opportunity marks the first step toward becoming a Veritas instructor. Selected alumni undertake a rigorous, yearlong teaching assistantship, during which they begin transitioning from accomplished scholars to educators entrusted with cultivating the next generation of Veritas students. TAs are typically recent Veritas graduates who are currently enrolled in high school.

Step 2

Instructors

Instructors – Upon successfully completing their yearlong teaching assistantship, TAs advance to the role of Veritas Instructor, assuming full responsibility for leading their own classes, known as small groups. This transition represents a significant milestone in their development as educators, moving from supervised instructional training to independent classroom leadership. Instructors are typically high school students who are several years removed from graduating at Veritas and have been teaching at Veritas for multiple years.

Step 3

Teaching Fellows

The highest level of instructional leadership at Veritas is the Teaching Fellow, a distinguished appointment reserved for Veritas alumni who are college undergraduate and graduate students and have demonstrated exceptional mastery of the Veritas curriculum, instructional excellence, and leadership.

In addition to leading their own small-group classes, Teaching Fellows are entrusted with guiding the school’s academic direction. They open the academic day by delivering rigorous, whole-group lectures that introduce complex concepts, establish central questions, and provide the intellectual framework for subsequent small-group instruction. Beyond their classroom responsibilities, Teaching Fellows play a critical role in curriculum development, instructional quality, and faculty mentorship. They help refine the Veritas teaching model, develop the next generation of instructors, and ensure that academic rigor and instructional excellence remain consistent across classrooms. The teaching fellowship at Veritas includes a scholarship toward undergraduate and graduate collegiate studies.
