There’s zero chance I can make this short (you’ve been warned!). But the summary: Veritas was ABSOLUTELY transformational for us.
My kid is a private school kid. His education has been undeniably privileged. We’ve paid big tuition. And don’t get it twisted – we’ve worked hard to parent him… And he’s sharp. We’re truly blessed.
Our journey through the program was and continues to be absolutely transformational, and elevated my student to new heights. Why? It was supplemental to anything that was (is) taught within his school. And frankly, his path through Veritas was not always easy. Despite having a robust academic education, he did not have HIS voice. And he had to learn that. Veritas exposed him to topics which became the cornerstone for everything that followed. New schools of thought were introduced. Thorough analysis. Self-confidence. Rhetoric. He didn’t come back from Saturday sessions drained – he came back energized. He and I picked up where the class discussion left off. It was awesome.
He learned to seize his moment (this was a big one – people don’t sit around waiting for you). So, yes, he already knew how to carry himself around any adult, but what he gained was learning how to ENGAGE in meaningful conversations with anyone at any level. Business leaders and common man philosophers alike. We moved beyond being polite – we were ACTIVE.
It’s probably worth mentioning that we didn’t coast through the program. Honestly. He failed an assessment. I watched. It was painful. Yet, after, he admitted that he didn’t give the time needed to pass it. (life lesson, anyone?) He was ready for the next one. And the one after. He got better – and Veritas pushed him as he pushed himself. For intensives, he and his cohort crew didn’t stop when the program time was over. They pushed – until very late night – to get themselves ready. They locked horns during the corporate immersion program to come up with the best campaigns. He did not sleep much (at all) at Harvard, preparing the cases for debates. They wanted to be the best, and Veritas stoked and honed that fire.
Finally, a truly underrated aspect of the program: He found his people. He literally was with 6 other alumni from his Veritas class today to hang out. They have leaned on one another throughout their college application process, and opened decisions together.
I honestly could go on and on… but for us, Veritas more than delivered.
But listen folks: he WORKED for it. It wasn’t come sit in class, and get this amazing result. Veritas provided the construct for him to grow. But ya gotta go get it.
Lastly, a reminder: you know your child – they will have their own growth from this (or any) program. Evaluate their success based upon THEIR change. (I’d guess many of us have a story within our family of starting from a non-equal “line” as others, so evaluate accordingly.)
For us, Veritas was a way to get the best out of our scholar.
